Юбилейная статья-обзор, посвященная жизни и деятельности выдающегося ученого и врача Владимира Станиславовича Шапкина (1918-1998). Автор - один из учеников В.С. Шапкина - рассказывает о его становлении как хирурга-практика и ученого, впервые разработавшего технику ряда сложных вмешательств в абдоминальной и торакальной хирургии. Подробно рассматривается владивостокский период жизни В.С. Шапкина, его научная и практическая работа, а также педагогическая деятельность, завершившаяся созданием научной школы хирургов.

Anniversary review article, devoted to the life and activity of the outstanding scientist and physician V.S. Shapkin (1918-1998). The author - one of V.S. Shapkin's pupils - tells about his start as surgeon practitioner and the scientist who for the first time has developed the techniques of some difficult interventions in abdominal and thoracic surgery. The Vladivostok period of life of V.S. Shapkin, his scientific and practical work, and also the pedagogical activity which was come to the end with creation of scientific school of surgeons is shown in detail.
