Diagnostic role of TNFa and sTNF-RII in blood and urine of children with pyelonephritis

Abstract

Background. The incidence of urinary organs of children have a tendency to increase, being the second pathology of this indicator of childhood in Russia. But there is short number of research devoted to the role of cytokines in infectious and inflammatory diseases of children kidneys, especially in chronic pyelonephritis. Methods. 115 children from 1 year 11 months to 17 years with acute (35 patients) and chronic (80 patients), pyelonephritis was observed. In blood and urine levels of TNFα and sTNF-RII were determined with help of ELISA. Results. In blood and urine of patients was founded a significant increase of TNFα level, the highest figures was recorded in the active stage of chronic pyelonephritis. Systemic and local levels of sTNF-RII in patients with acute pyelonephritis were significantly decreased, in chronic disease course, this tendency continued, but in complete remission the amount of sTNF-RII in blood and urine did not differ from normal values. Conclusions. Decreased level of sTNF-RII blood and urine on a background of increased concentration of TNFα in pyelonephritis in children can be recognized as a measure of chronization of inflammation process.
