Effects of Alpha lipoic acid on the state of cerebral microcirculatory bloodstream in case of experimental craniocerebral trauma in laboratory animals

Abstract

The experiment conducted on 62 laboratory rats with isolated severe traumatic brain injuries allowed to analyze the therapeutic efficiency of Alpha lipoic acid. The morphologic and neurovisual methods of investigation confirmed reduction in the cerebral tissue edema in the area where the secondary injury occurred. The authors believe the brain protective effects of the drug resulted from the nitric oxide-producing function of the brain microvessels.
